Knowing I now have hard water, I ordered the special filter, assuming directions would come with it since I couldn't find any on the website. Nope. No clue if this is supposed to replace one of these others or goes somewhere else. And should I use up one of the pre-installed filters or swap it in right away...

Thank you very much for your valuable feedback. We are planning on making instructional videos to put on every alternative filter on our website. If you haven't been able to install the Anti-scale Carbon Prefilter, it takes the place of the standard Ft-92 Carbon filter pre-installed in the machine. The pre-filters are twist-on and off filters. To take the previous filter off just turn it clockwise. It may be easier to grip the filter as close to the filter head as possible. To install the new pre-filter, please twist the filter into the housing in a counter-clockwise direction. I hope this information helps. I had an issue with my countertop reverse osmosis system and spoke with Barbara G. about it. She was very helpful in sending an email on things to try. I worried what would come next after I told her I still had the issue when those suggestions did not resolve my problem. Instead of shoving me off to someone else in the company she cheerily sent out a new membrane free of charge! I am very pleased to say the least!
